Scania, a leading manufacturer of engines for boats, trucks, buses, and industrial applications, is showcasing its new marine hybrid solution at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Called the E-Machine, this compact and modular system integrates propulsion, inverter, and power control unit into a single system. It can be paired with a Scania combustion engine for hybrid propulsion or directly connected to a gearbox for a fully electric system. The E-Machine’s modular design allows it to be customized for vessels of different sizes, making it a versatile solution for boat builders. The system also simplifies integration with external components for easy installation, maintenance, and use.

According to David Hughes, sales manager of marine products for Scania USA, the E-Machine aligns with the company’s commitment to environmentally conscious propulsion. While Scania’s diesel marine engines are known for their power and efficiency, the E-Machine offers a more environmentally friendly option. It also enables almost silent propulsion, which is beneficial for operating in crowded harbors or near marine wildlife. The E-Machine provides 230 kW of continuous power and has a potential CO2 emission reduction of up to 92% in the hybrid configuration and 98% in the fully electric version when using renewable sources of electricity.

To learn more about the Scania E-Machine, visitors can visit booth 1209A at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 25-29, 2023. For additional information on Scania engines or to find a dealer, interested parties can visit the company’s website.
