Frederick University and Island Oil Ltd, a prominent company in Cyprus specializing in marine and domestic fuels, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the Maritime and Blue Economy field. Island Oil offers scholarships to students pursuing a BSc in Maritime Studies at Frederick University, along with other financial support schemes. The MoU was signed by Island Oil’s CFO, Aris Athanasiades, and Dr. Angelos Menelaou, Head of the Department of Maritime Transport and Commerce at Frederick University.
The signing ceremony took place at Frederick University in Limassol and was attended by key representatives from both organizations, including Dimitris Lemesianos from Island Oil and Dr. Emmanouel Nicolaides from Frederick University. Island Oil provides two scholarships covering 50% of tuition fees for the four-year duration of the Maritime Studies program, as well as financial support for educational field trips to Europe for students.
As part of the collaboration, Frederick University will conduct educational workshops on marine and shipping topics for Island Oil’s personnel and the wider maritime industry. Island Oil’s CFO, Athanasiades, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility through this scholarship initiative. Dr. Menelaou highlighted the value of industry connections for students and expressed gratitude for Island Oil’s support in educating future leaders in the constantly evolving Maritime and Blue Economy sectors.
