An unidentified crew member is currently missing after jumping from an MSC cruise ship. The incident occurred last Monday evening as the MSC Musica departed from the port of Civitavecchia en route to Genoa. The vessel’s navigational team promptly initiated a search that lasted three hours, with support from the local Coast Guard deploying air and sea assets.
According to MSC Cruises, the crew member’s name and gender have not been disclosed to protect the family’s privacy. The cruise line spokesperson stated that a search and rescue operation was launched in collaboration with local authorities, utilizing a rescue helicopter and multiple patrol boats. The search is ongoing, and the cruise line expressed deep sadness and provided support to those affected by the incident.
This incident on June 10 marks the 10th man overboard incident in 2024 for the cruise line, which has faced several man-overboard emergencies in recent months. The cruise line has urged anyone struggling with thoughts of suicide to seek help from the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or by texting “HELLO” to 741741 to connect with a trained counselor.
