On February 28, Laskaridis Shipping Co. Ltd. managed vessel MV LEONIDAS (IMO: 9696474) en route to Port Veracruz, Mexico, received a Mayday call from the fishing boat Benjamin on VHF.
TThe three fishermen on board told the crew of the M/V Leonidas that they were sailing from the Yucatan and have been adrift for 25 days without being able to contact authorities. Your ship had a broken propeller and was immobilized. Luckily her health was in good condition.
MS LEONIDAS changed course and went to the fishing boat. After less than an hour, the fishing boat “Benjamin” was on the port side of the MS LEONIDAS. The crew of the MS LEONIDAS provided the fishermen with fresh water, food and medical care.
The M/V Leonidas will take the fishermen to Port Veracruz and continue operations.
