Norway’s Kleven shipyard, now known as Green Yard Kleven, is making a comeback to shipbuilding after four years since its bankruptcy and acquisition by Green Yard. The company, known for its innovative offshore vessels, has been primarily focusing on retrofits since its bankruptcy in 2020. However, they recently secured a contract from OMV Petrom for the construction of a Field Support Vessel, in collaboration with Marin Teknikk. This marks their re-entry into the new construction market, with the vessel designed to cater to the unique needs of the offshore oil and gas sector.

The Field Support Vessel is part of the Neptun Deep project, Romania’s largest natural gas field in the Black Sea. The vessel will support operations at the unmanned platform and accommodate technical and administrative personnel living on board. With advanced features like four azimuth propellers and special systems, the vessel can stay connected in challenging sea conditions, enabling more operational days per year. It will measure 295 feet with 90 cabins, storage for liquid cargo, and a large aft deck for loading equipment.

Marin Teknikk’s design for the vessel, initially conceived in 2006 for the offshore wind sector, has been customized for the specific requirements of the Neptun Deep project. The vessel’s construction is already underway, with the hull being built by a subcontractor in Poland and expected to arrive in Norway by early 2026. Green Yard Kleven plans to deliver the completed vessel in the second half of 2026, showcasing their reemergence in the shipbuilding industry with a focus on innovative and sustainable solutions.
