The “Sagar Aankalan” Guidelines for National Benchmarking of Indian Ports Performance are being implemented across all Indian seaports to improve logistics performance and efficiency, harmonize standards with global benchmarks, and enhance competitiveness, productivity, sustainability, and customer satisfaction in the port sector. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) recently concluded the Stakeholders Meet – Implementation of MoUs at the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 (GMIS 2023), aiming to turn MoUs into actionable plans and ensure swift implementation. The event was attended by various stakeholders, senior officials, and dignitaries, with discussions centered on overcoming challenges and facilitating the implementation of the MoUs, as well as launching the GMIS Report and M.Tech in Dredging Technology course at IIT, Chennai.
The Ministry emphasized the need for sustainable growth and technological advancements within the maritime sector, as per the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision announced by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during GMIS 2023. Stakeholders were urged to work together towards the transformation of the Indian maritime sector and propel it to new heights, focusing on collaboration and turning agreements into reality.
GMIS 2023 resulted in a significant investment commitment of ₹10 lakh crore, showcasing the immense potential of India’s maritime sector, with the signing of 360 MoUs and additional investible projects worth ₹1.68 lakh crore. These agreements covered various aspects of the maritime sector and are expected to drive innovation, economic growth, and solidify India’s global maritime leadership position. The Ministry remains committed to translating the objectives of the signed MoUs into tangible outcomes through collaboration, technology, and sustainable practices, aiming to unlock the full potential of India’s maritime sector and drive inclusive growth.
