The Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) recently celebrated a significant milestone by reaching 100 million gross tons (gt) with the naming of the 156,000 gt vessel, Eagle Veracruz, on January 23. Administered by the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the SRS is home to over 4,000 vessels and plays a crucial role in enhancing Singapore’s value as an international maritime center. The MPA stated that the SRS brings together top shipping groups from around the world and ensures that the needs and interests of the global maritime community are well represented.
The Eagle Veracruz is an LNG-dual fuel Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) with a main engine built on a modular concept, allowing for potential retrofit options to run on low-and zero-carbon fuels in the future. The SRS is also introducing new technology, welfare, and green notations to further enhance its offerings. This achievement underscores Singapore’s position as a leading maritime hub and its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the shipping industry.
