SM Ferdous Alam has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), replacing Shamsuddoha Khandaker. Alam joined the 13th Group of Bangladeshi Civil Service as an administrative cadre and graduated from Bangladesh Agricultural University Faculty of Agriculture in 1988. He has held several positions including Assistant Commissioner, First Class Judge, Fast Track Court Judge, Senior Deputy Secretary, and Joint Secretary of various government ministries such as Rural Development, Posts and Telecommunications, Roads and Highways, Fisheries and Livestock, and Shipping.
The BIWTC is responsible for managing the country’s inland water transport and operates ferry and launch services on major river routes throughout Bangladesh. With his expertise in managing various departments in the government, Alam is expected to make significant contributions towards the development of Bangladesh’s inland water transport sector and improving the quality of services provided by BIWTC. His appointment reaffirms the government’s commitment to promoting economic growth through sustainable and efficient transportation networks.
