Marell Boats, a Swedish builder, has successfully completed sea trials for a new high-speed craft equipped with a hybrid electric propulsion system. The 17-metre vessel is designed to deliver high-speed performance in challenging sea conditions, with strong webs and longitudinal framing ensuring exceptional hull performance at high speeds in rough weather. The boat’s 21-degree deadrise at the stern, optimized fore body, and longitudinal strakes provide a comfortable ride in high waves and enable safe high-speed turns.
Power for the craft is supplied by two Scania V8 engines and Scania electric motors. The boat is designed to run dry at all times, with sea spray directed to the side to keep the windscreen and deck clean. The new boat will be available in patrol and search and rescue (SAR) variants, with the patrol models capable of being fitted with ballistic protection panels and the SAR variant equipped with firefighting pumps and monitors, as well as space for up to 30 additional personnel.
