The UAE is leveraging its advancements in space technology to enhance maritime security and safety. Through the launch of the Satgate project, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is utilizing satellites and artificial intelligence to track ships, monitor sea conditions, and provide weather forecasts. This initiative, in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre in Dubai, aims to establish a database of ships visiting UAE ports and improve the security of maritime facilities by tracking vessels without tracking devices.
With recent incidents of attacks on oil tankers and cargo ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf, the Satgate project plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and competitiveness of commercial sea traffic in the region. Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei emphasized the importance of utilizing advanced technology to enhance maritime transport and reduce risks associated with sea navigation.
By enhancing tracking systems through cutting-edge technology, the UAE is taking proactive measures to secure its maritime assets and maintain a safe environment for vessels operating in its waters. The Satgate project not only improves maritime security but also contributes to the overall efficiency and reliability of sea transportation in the region.
