The US Coast Guard intercepted $80 million worth of heroin during a ship inspection in the Gulf of Oman. The heroin, weighing 1,964 kilograms, was found on a fishing vessel in international waters. The Coast Guard also seized 1,200 pounds of methamphetamine and 80 pounds of heroin worth $30 million from another fishing vessel two days before this incident. Both ships had left Chah Bahar in Iran.

Glen Harris, a fast-response cutter, is part of Patrol Forces Southwest Asia and performs several duties, including search and seizure missions. The Combined Task Force 150 seized an estimated $250 million worth of illegal drugs in 2023, keeping in line with their efforts to work with regional partners and disrupt any destabilizing maritime activity at sea. The commanding officer of Glen Harris expressed pride in his crew’s accomplishments and their commitment to continue working towards eliminating the threat of illegal drug activity at sea.
