Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has decided to increase the number of ships from two of its international shipping lines docking at Vizhinjam International Port, starting in February 2025. The port will now be visited by ships from the Dragon service, connecting Asia and the Mediterranean, and the Jade service, connecting Europe and Asia. These services transport containers from key ports in Asia to Europe through the Middle East, with the port being a regular stop for the corporation.

Adani Ports plans to utilize Vizhinjam Port for handling export containers that can then be distributed across India, eliminating the need for detours to other ports in the country. This new development will allow for a weekly service, guaranteeing berthing at the port. Traders, especially those in South India, can benefit from faster shipping of goods to Europe through this facility, which has already handled a substantial amount of cargo and ships in the past few months.

Through this collaboration, the port aims to enhance trade opportunities and provide a more efficient route for shipping goods between Asia and Europe. The increased presence of MSC ships at Vizhinjam will offer a convenient option for exporters and importers, saving time and costs associated with transshipment at other ports in India. As the port gears up for formal operations in the near future, it is poised to become a significant hub for maritime trade in the region.
