Marine pump specialist Svanehøj has introduced the world’s first high-pressure centrifugal pump designed specifically for ammonia fuel applications. The HP NH3 Booster Pump is capable of delivering a fuel injection pressure of up to 100 BAR. Based on the successful design of Svanehøj’s patented deepwell low-pressure fuel pump, this new pump has a compact footprint of 2,100x780x1,450 mm, making it ideal for the tank connection space in an ammonia fuel supply system. With over 1,000 units of the low-pressure pump sold, including 100 for ammonia use, the HP NH3 Booster Pump is a promising addition to the market.
The HP NH3 Booster Pump features a hermetically sealed design with no mechanical shaft seals, utilizing a magnetic coupling for torque transmission from the motor. The coupling containment shroud is constructed from magnesium-stabilized zirconium oxide for high temperature stability. Additionally, an optional fail-safe mechanism serves as a second barrier in case of a breach in the containment shroud, ensuring the containment of pumped media inside the coupling housing. The pump is fully drainable and can be easily lifted out in one piece for maintenance.
Technical specifications of the Svanehøj HP NH3 Booster Pump include a flow rate of 37 m3/h and a discharge pressure of 85 bar (65 bar pump Δp). The pump is designed with a heavy-duty drive featuring a carbon-reinforced and easily accessible timing belt system. With only one media-lubricated and easily replaceable ceramic ball bearing for all axial loads, the pump offers reliable performance for ammonia fuel applications. The innovative design and high-pressure capabilities of the HP NH3 Booster Pump make it a valuable asset for the marine industry.
