Marine archaeologists have uncovered new details of Vrak 5, a 1480s wreck in Landfjärden near Häringe, south of Stockholm, Sweden. About 35 metres of the hull survive, and it may be the oldest known medieval warship built in Sweden or Denmark, with finds including a possible galley stove.
Guinness World Records has recognised a Bronze Age wreck near Kekova Island, off Antalya on Türkiye’s Mediterranean coast, as the world’s oldest known shipwreck. The small trading vessel, about 4,400 to 4,700 years old, carried amphorae and stone anchors when it sank.
Underwater archaeologists working off Adrasan, on Türkiye’s Antalya coast about 30 km west of Kekova Island, have recovered thousands of plates, bowls and trays from a ship that sank about 2,100 years ago. The cargo was packed so carefully that much of it survived unbroken.
