South American Indigenous Communities Request Shared Benefit from Spanish Galleon San Jose
Members of three South American indigenous communities have asked Spain and UNESCO to recognize a Spanish galleon that sank 300 years ago as a shared heritage. The San Jose, carrying valuable treasures, was located in 2015. The indigenous communities seek to benefit from the wreck’s salvage proceeds in a joint effort with Spain and Colombia.
