The Korea Hydrogen Industry Association (KHIA) has signed an agreement with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the University of Ulsan to develop a hydrogen-powered vessel for tourism. The 40-seat vessel will be equipped with electric propulsion using a 350-kW hydrogen fuel cell, making it a zero-emission vessel. This project aligns with Korea’s national hydrogen strategy and qualifies as one of the research, development, and demonstration projects associated with it. ABS will provide technical knowledge and regulatory expertise to enhance the safety of the maritime industry and facilitate the transition to clean energy. The use of hydrogen as a marine fuel is still in its early stages, with limited applications to small prototype vessels. KHIA expressed its enthusiasm for the agreement and looks forward to collaborating with ABS and the University of Ulsan in various fields.
