In November 2023, global schedule reliability for the shipping industry dropped by 2.5 percentage points to 61.9 percent, bringing it back to the levels of March 2023. This decline was attributed to the growing security challenges in the Red Sea and increased waits and delays at the Panama Canal. Despite this drop, schedule reliability was still 5.4 percentage points higher than the previous year.
Asian-based carriers, such as Evergreen and Wan Hai, showed significant gains in schedule reliability, with Evergreen leading the pack at 70 percent reliability. Maersk, a consistent leader, dropped to third place, while MSC fell significantly from second to seventh place. The average delay for late vessel arrivals also increased to 5.02 days, the first time it has been delayed by more than five days since March 2023.
The industry is facing challenges due to the security problems in the Red Sea, which have led to delays and increased voyage times. This has impacted schedule reliability and is expected to continue to affect the industry in the coming months. The December report will provide further insight into the impact of the situation in the Red Sea on the shipping industry.
