According to the Maeil Business Newspaper, the Korea Maritime Traffic Safety Authority (KOMSA) has pinpointed Jeju and North Gyeongsang as the regions in South Korea with the highest incidence of maritime accidents in 2024. Both provinces saw an uptick in the number of accidents compared to the previous year. Jeju experienced a 1.5 per cent increase, while North Gyeongsang saw a 1.9 per cent rise.
These findings highlight the need for enhanced safety measures and vigilance in these two areas to prevent further maritime accidents. The data serves as a reminder of the importance of implementing and enforcing strict safety protocols to protect lives and prevent damage to marine ecosystems. It is crucial for authorities and stakeholders to work together to address the underlying causes of these accidents and implement effective solutions.
Efforts should be made to analyze the factors contributing to the higher incidence of maritime accidents in Jeju and North Gyeongsang. By identifying and addressing these factors, steps can be taken to reduce the risk of accidents and improve overall maritime safety in these regions. Increased awareness, training, and enforcement of regulations are essential to ensure the well-being of those involved in maritime activities and the preservation of marine environments.
