A towboat partially sunk in the Port of Florence, Alabama, resulting in the discharge of diesel fuel. The U.S. Coast Guard, along with partner agencies, responded to the incident after receiving a notification from RMB Marine Services on Sunday. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Nashville has been deployed to assess the situation and pollution responders are on scene. A containment boom has been deployed and is currently containing most of the fuel, which is being recovered using a vacuum truck and drum skimmer. The maximum potential for spill is estimated to be 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel. RMB Marine Services is working with E3 Solutions, an oil spill removal organization, to clean up the discharged product. Approximately 200 feet of hard boom has been deployed to contain the fuel in the water, with an additional 350 feet of boom acting as a secondary barrier.

Fortunately, no injuries or wildlife impacts have been reported as a result of the incident. The Coast Guard is now investigating the cause of the partial sinking.
