Carnival Corporation & plc, the largest cruise company in the world, has signed an agreement with Fincantieri shipyard in Italy to build three new cruise ships. These ships, scheduled for delivery in 2029, 2031, and 2033, will be the largest in the Carnival fleet, with nearly 230,000 gross tons and powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). This order adds to a total of five new ship orders for Carnival Cruise Line, including two Excel-class ships coming in 2027 and 2028.
The CEO of Carnival Corporation, Josh Weinstein, emphasized the strategic growth of the company, particularly in doubling down on the growth of Carnival Cruise Line. With a newbuilding pipeline consisting of deliveries in 2025, 2027, 2028, 2029, 2031, and 2033, the company is strategically targeting new capacity to meet high demand. The new ships will have 3,000 guest cabins and accommodate nearly 8,000 guests at full capacity.
The partnership between Carnival Cruise Line and Fincantieri aims to produce the largest cruise ship ever built in Italy. With an emphasis on energy efficiency, waste management, and emissions reduction, these LNG-powered ships represent nearly 30% of Carnival Corporation’s global capacity. More details on design and itineraries for the new ships will be announced in the future, pending completion of financing later this year.
