Luxembourg-based shipping group CLdN has recently become a member of the Maritime Battery Forum, a global community focused on advancing maritime battery technology. CLdN, established in 1929, operates a fleet of 30 ships and offers over 200 weekly sailings connecting various European regions, including the UK, Ireland, Iberia, and Scandinavia. Additionally, the company owns and manages five ports in Belgium, The Netherlands, and the UK.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, CLdN has been exploring alternative fuels and propulsion systems for its vessels, as well as innovative approaches to shore-to-ship power in port operations. The company is particularly interested in the potential of battery technology to reduce emissions and enhance efficiency in maritime and port applications. By investing in new vessels equipped with advanced propulsion systems and large shaft generators, CLdN aims to significantly decrease CO2 emissions while maintaining cargo capacity.
Joining the Maritime Battery Forum allows CLdN to collaborate with industry experts and battery suppliers to develop tailored technologies that meet the specific needs of ship owners and operators. The forum offers valuable insights into battery technology, safety standards, sustainability practices, and financing options. By engaging with the MBF community, CLdN hopes to gain valuable knowledge that will inform its future decisions regarding the integration of batteries in its fleet and port operations.
