A delegation of 15 WMU students from various countries, accompanied by faculty Dr. Anish Hebbar, recently visited the Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters in Mumbai as part of their field visit to India. The World Maritime University (WMU), established in 1983 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), is a leading institution for maritime postgraduate education, research, and capacity building. Graduates from WMU have gone on to hold significant roles in maritime sectors, coast guards, and maritime administrations, including the IMO.

During their visit to Mumbai, the students gained insight into various aspects of Maritime Affairs, including Flag state, Coastal State, and Port state functions. They also learned about Maritime Safety, seafarer training, Maritime law, environmental protection, and Maritime Administration. The students had the opportunity to visit Indian Coast Guard units in Mumbai, where they were briefed on Pollution Response and Marine Environment protection efforts, and received hands-on experience on board the Pollution Control Vessel, ICGS Samudra Prahari.

The visit provided the students with exposure to Maritime best practices, case studies, and Coastal State functions. They also learned about the Atma Nirbhar and SAGAR initiatives of the Government of India. Such visits not only leave a positive impression on the students but also pave the way for potential future collaborations between the visiting students and the Indian Coast Guard.
