The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) Chairman, Dr. M. Angamuthu, has announced plans to develop a Maritime Heritage Complex (MHC) in Visakhapatnam City. The MHC will be open to the public and will include a digital library, a cafeteria, and a pleasant research environment. It will house a collection of heritage items, photos, and antique items that depict the port’s history over the past 90 years. Additionally, the MHC will have a Port Waterfront Area and a walkway that offers views of ship movements and allows the public to experience the port’s operations.

During the event celebrating the port’s 90th formation day, Dr. Angamuthu also discussed the port’s development plans. Currently, the port has a capacity of 135 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and is focusing on improving its evacuation and mechanisation systems. The port will also collaborate with the Skill Development Council to enhance the skills of its employees. Dr. Angamuthu mentioned that the port has prepared Maritime India Vision 2030 and Vision 2047, which will be discussed with stakeholders and their suggestions will be incorporated.

The event attendees shared their positive experiences and memories with the port, commended the Chairman’s efforts for the upcoming initiatives, and expressed their willingness to support the MHC project.
