SHI and DNV Partner to Establish Remote Operation Centre for Autonomous Ships

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and DNV have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a state-of-the-art Remote Operation Centre (ROC) for real-time monitoring and control of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS). The partnership aims to drive innovation and redefine the future of marine transportation by developing advanced technology, including the Internet of Things (IoT) and cybersecurity platforms, to ensure safe and smooth operations. DNV will advise SHI on the ROC concept and later certify it according to relevant regulations. The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the commitment to innovation and safety in the maritime industry.

Hyun Joe Kim, Vice President and Director of Autonomous Ship Research Centre at SHI, expressed excitement about the partnership and the shared vision of efficient and cyber-secure autonomous vessels.
