DP World and Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) announced the completion of a two-year, $25 million modernization project at the Batangas Passenger Terminal, increasing its capacity to handle up to 8 million passengers annually. The terminal, located 110 km from Manila, serves as the largest inter-island hub in the Philippines and connects mainland Luzon with major island provinces in Visayas and Mindanao. The initiative, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., aims to transform the terminal into a world-class facility, enhancing comfort, safety, and convenience for travelers.
The modernization project is part of a larger US$90 million investment in the Batangas Port, which also includes a container terminal serving the Calabarzon region and accounting for 15% of the country’s GDP. The project has doubled the terminal’s capacity, with plans to open additional commercial and F&B stores by the third quarter of this year. With dignitaries like Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Jaime Bautista, and Eusebio Tanco in attendance, the unveiling of the new passenger terminal marks a significant milestone in the port’s development.
The modernized Batangas Passenger Terminal features state-of-the-art amenities such as centralized air conditioning, LED lights, and passenger services like restaurants, shops, and prayer rooms. DP World and ATI’s partnership in modernizing the port reflects their commitment to sustainable growth and community development. Through initiatives focused on education, environmental conservation, and women’s empowerment, the companies strive to make a positive impact beyond commercial goals. DP World’s involvement in modernizing the Batangas Port has transformed it into a fully integrated gateway with world-class facilities supporting trade and tourism in the Philippines.
