Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Chennai and the Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai to launch a National Joint MTech Programme on Dredging Engineering. This program is a response to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the maritime industry. The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in the national capital.
According to the statement issued by DCIL, the program aims to train students with the necessary skills to meet the demands of the maritime industry. The program will be run jointly by the three entities, with students starting their first semester at IIT in Chennai before moving to IMU for their second semester. The third semester will involve students working at DCIL, and for the fourth semester, students are free to choose the location for their master thesis.
Based in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, DCIL provides dredging and allied services to ports, the Indian Navy, fishing harbours, and other maritime organizations. This joint program seeks to address the growing need for skilled professionals in the maritime industry and prepare students for careers in dredging engineering.
