The U.S. and its allies are considering how to respond to increasing attacks by Houthi fighters in the Red Sea. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have launched their largest missile and drone attack, prompting the U.S. and U.K. military to shoot down 18 drones and three missiles. The U.S. is considering military strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, but there are concerns about the risk of regional escalation.

The United States and its allies have failed to deter the Iran-backed militant group’s attacks, despite warnings of consequences from Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps. While Saudi Arabia wants to stop the attacks, they have expressed concerns about military action in Yemen.

The attacks in the Red Sea have forced shipping companies to reroute their vessels and are snarling supply chains, potentially impacting the global economy and driving up freight costs. There are also fears that the conflict could spread further in the region, with tensions escalating between Israel, Hamas, and Hezbollah. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is on a whirlwind tour of the Middle East to prevent further escalation.
