Capt. Zulaika Florin, a master mariner with Hafnia, has been awarded the Seafarer of the Year at the 2025 Crew Connect Global Awards. This prestigious recognition highlights her exceptional leadership and commitment to the maritime community, distinguishing her among five global nominees. Florin, who operates chemical tankers for Hafnia, the largest tanker company worldwide, has garnered accolades for her resilience and adept leadership at sea.
Florin has been praised for her ability to navigate challenges with “grit, grace, and unwavering leadership,” as well as for her fairness and tough decision-making during critical situations. In previous interviews, Florin noted the rarity of women in her field and expressed surprise at achieving the rank of captain. She described her journey as akin to “passing through a needle’s hole,” emphasizing the constant need to prove her capabilities, supported by her patience, faith, and family encouragement.
The Seatrade Maritime Crew Connect Global Awards, held on November 12, also honored seven other maritime professionals and organizations for their contributions to innovation, crew welfare, and safety within the industry. Notable awards included the Innovation and Technology Award, which went to Maersk Training, and the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Capt. Belal Ahmed. Chris Morlet, Seatrade Maritime’s group director, commended the winners and finalists for their significant advancements in the maritime sector.
