Danish naval architecture firm Knud E. Hansen has revealed the first images of a new research vessel, Dana V, ordered by the Danish National Institute of Aquatic Resources. The vessel is set to replace the current Dana IV and is expected to begin operations in 2027. Designed for icy waters in the Baltic and Arctic Seas, Dana V will comply with Polar Code B and PC 6 as well as maintain high standards for low underwater noise during scientific operations.
The multi-disciplinary vessel will be equipped for various research tasks, including fish stock monitoring, hydro-acoustic surveys, and oceanography studies. It will also support ice edge research, geological surveys, and meteorology observations of sea birds and mammals. With deck space available for buoys, anchors, and unmanned vehicles, Dana V will serve as a versatile platform for a wide range of research activities.
The unveiling of the vessel’s images comes after DTU Aqua’s recent public tender for the detailed design, construction, and delivery of the vessel. Dana V represents a significant advancement in research capabilities for the institute, offering state-of-the-art technology and facilities to support its scientific endeavors in the challenging marine environments of the Baltic and Arctic Seas.
