The Adani Group has announced ambitious plans for climate-friendly transformation, aiming to be the only carbon-neutral port operations by 2025 and net zero for the Adani Ports and SEZ (APSEZ) by 2040. This includes electrifying cranes, switching diesel-based Internal Transfer Vehicles to battery-based ITVs, and installing an additional 1000 MW of captive renewable capacity. In addition, the conglomerate is pledging to plant mangroves in 5,000 hectares by 2024-25, reflecting their commitment to environmental protection.

Mangroves are essential for the coastal ecosystem, providing a natural shield against soil erosion and supporting diverse flora and fauna. The Adani Group is also setting up the world’s largest green energy park in the Rann of Kutch desert area in Gujarat, covering 726 sq km and aiming to generate 30 GW of power for over 20 million homes. Additionally, the group is creating an extensive and integrated renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem for solar and wind in Mundra, underscoring its commitment to sustainable energy.

This project is expected to contribute to India’s green energy capacity and help the country reach its climate action pledges made at COP26. These include reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, generating half of all energy from renewables, reducing emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030, reducing the emissions intensity of GDP by 45%, and committing to net-zero emissions by 2070.
