The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has launched four new projects worth INR 8363.16 Crores. These projects aim to increase the port’s container capacity by 35%. The initiatives were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Global Maritime India Summit 2023.
The projects include the construction of the Fourth Container Terminal – Phase II on a public-private partnership basis, the modernization and transfer of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal, the inauguration of a new liquid berth terminal, and the launch of a Port-Based Multi-Product Special Economic Zone.
These initiatives are expected to enhance the port’s infrastructure, trade facilitation, and economic progress. The container capacity will increase from 7.7 million TEU to 10.4 million TEU, and the handling capacity for liquid cargo will increase by 62.5%.
The event was attended by government officials, industry leaders, and stakeholders. The projects mark a significant step in JNPA’s journey towards becoming a world-class port and will have a far-reaching impact on the region’s trade, commerce, and economic landscape. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of these projects to India’s trade and commerce.
