The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is once again celebrating the annual Day of the Seafarer (DotS) on June 25, focusing on the #SafetyTipsAtSea campaign for 2024. This year’s campaign aims to highlight seafarers’ contributions to ensuring safety in the maritime sector. Seafarers are encouraged to share their best safety tips at sea, from the gear they use to the training they receive, and to showcase how they keep their workplace safe through pictures.
Established in 2010, the Day of the Seafarer recognizes the vital role seafarers play in international seaborne trade and the global economy. The campaign urges governments, shipping organizations, companies, and individuals to promote and celebrate the Day of the Seafarer meaningfully. The new hashtag for the 2024 campaign is #SafetyTipsAtSea.
Seafarers are invited to participate in the campaign by sharing photos of their workplace and safety practices, using the hashtag #SafetyTipsAtSea. The initiative also encourages seafarer organizations to showcase their efforts in promoting safety at sea and calls on the wider public to show appreciation for the important work of seafarers. Additionally, the 4th edition of Crew Welfare Week, coinciding with the Day of the Seafarer, will honor the dedication and hard work of seafarers in the shipping industry.
