South Korean authorities are intensifying their search efforts for 12 crew members who went missing after a fishing vessel sank near Jeju Island. The Jeju Coast Guard has deployed 47 ships and five aircraft to conduct search operations until Saturday night. The South Korean-flagged fishing vessel ‘Geumseong 135’ sank on Friday, manned by 27 crew members, including 16 South Korean nationals and 11 Indonesian nationals.
During the search operation on Friday, 15 crew members were found, including nine Indonesian crew members. However, 10 South Korean crew members and two Indonesian crew members are still missing. Tragically, two of the South Korean crew members found suffered heart attacks and were pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. The current focus is on finding the remaining missing crew members, with aircraft also being deployed to drop 222 light flares to support the operation.
The search and rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities continue to search for the missing crew members. The tragic incident involving the sinking of the fishing vessel has highlighted the dangers faced by those working at sea. The cooperation between South Korean and Indonesian authorities is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of all crew members involved in maritime activities.
