A month after setting record handling performance for the last financial year, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s leading container port, has achieved another feat in setting a global benchmark for containerized cargo handling. According to the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) Report 2023 published by the World Bank, JNPA has an impressive Turnaround Time (TAT) of just 22 hours (equivalent to 0.9 days), placing India among the top performers.
JNPA was able to accomplish this feat due to various measures taken to reduce dwell time. Most importantly, the operational efficiency of terminal operators has made the greatest contribution, along with better landside rail and road connectivity, the introduction of Centralized Parking Plaza (CPP), the digitization of processes; streamlining of ship docking and undocking; Deploying more tugs for smooth vessel transition, etc. are some of the other initiatives JNPA has taken to facilitate the efficient functioning of the port.
Shri Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman of JNPA said, “This is exciting news for all of us at JNPA. Just last month we hit a record 6.05 million TEU in 2022-23, World Bank data reaffirms that our efficiency parameters are better than many countries according to LPI report 2023 and we as a team are striving to reduce logistic costs further decrease and time for EXIM trade.” Shri Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman of the JNPA and Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Vice Chairman of the JNPA congratulated the team on this remarkable achievement.
