The Port of New Mangalore in India has experienced a growth in traffic of 9% in July 2023/24 and is projected to achieve its highest-ever cargo throughput by the end of the fiscal year. Union Minister Sripad Yesso Naik, who is responsible for ports and shipping, made this announcement. The port is expected to benefit from rapid industrialization along the Karnataka coast and improved connectivity in the Western Ghats, which will contribute to increased business opportunities. Furthermore, the implementation of infrastructure modernization projects, such as the construction of a new deep berth and a fishing port at Kulai, is expected to drive even stronger growth in the coming years.

During the launch of the 2023 Global Maritime India Summit at the New Mangalore Port Authority, Minister Naik emphasized the crucial role that ports play in determining a nation’s competitiveness in trade. He also highlighted the significant progress made by the Indian shipping sector through the digital transformation of port operations. The strategic advantage of the Port of New Mangalore lies in its capacity of over 105 million tons and its position as a gateway to the thriving state of Karnataka.
