Mercantile & Maritime Group, a global energy and logistics company, is expanding its MENA Terminals in Fujairah, UAE, to create the Middle East’s largest biofuel processing plant. Valued at AED 2.2 billion, this project demonstrates the group’s dedication to sustainable energy and aligns with the UAE’s goal of leading in green energy initiatives. The plant, set to be completed by 2026, will produce 150 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel annually, supporting the UAE’s aim to reduce carbon emissions in aviation and reinforcing its position as an innovative energy hub.
CEO Murtaza Lakhani expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support, especially from His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, the Ruler of Fujairah. By producing sustainable aviation fuel locally, Mercantile & Maritime aims to reduce the country’s reliance on imported fuel, cutting carbon emissions from international transportation. The facility will utilize advanced technology, including artificial intelligence, to enhance operations, ensure compliance with global environmental standards, and establish itself as a leading model in the biofuel sector.
As part of their unveiling at ADIPEC 2024, MENA Terminals will showcase a 3D model of the biofuel facility, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable energy solutions. This initiative underscores the UAE’s role in promoting environmental responsibility and contributing to a greener future for the region and beyond.
