A new solar power plant project at the port aims to meet all of the port’s electricity needs once operational, with excess energy being fed into the state grid via net metering. The project is estimated to cost Rs 16.9 billion, and at least 10 companies have shown interest in participating. Supported by MPA and GEDA, the solar power plant will be built on a 7-hectare site within the port area. The port chairman, N Vinodkumar, emphasized the importance of green initiatives, stating that with the installation and commissioning of the plant, MPA will be completely self-sufficient in terms of green energy.
The port currently requires 2.6 MW of electricity to meet its operational needs, and the plant is expected to be completed by May or June. The MPA had signed an MoU with GEDA for the construction of the power plant, and GEDA issued a tender for the planning, engineering, construction, and maintenance of the facility for 10 years. The grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plant will be operated on a virtual net metering basis, and around 2.5 km of 11 kW underground cables must be laid as part of the project, which will be connected to the Bogda substation.
