Mormugao Port to Secure ₹3,000 Crore Deals at India Maritime Week 2025
The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) in Goa is poised to sign 24 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) totaling ₹3,000 crore during the India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW) scheduled for October 27-31 in Mumbai. This significant event will gather global leaders, investors, and industry stakeholders at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. The agreements aim to enhance port infrastructure, including the redevelopment of berths and the implementation of solar power projects. MPA’s long-term strategy targets an increase in cargo-handling capacity from 65 million metric tonnes to 100 million metric tonnes by 2035.
Dr. N Vinodkumar, MPA Chairperson, announced plans to transform berth No. 9 into a 350-meter facility for accommodating larger ships and general cargo. Additionally, another berth will be upgraded to host four domestic cruise vessels, boosting the port’s tourism potential. Recognized as India’s first green port, Mormugao already generates 3 MW of electricity from its solar power plant, covering its current energy needs, with plans for a further 2 MW to support the upcoming cruise terminal.
The IMW, organized by the Indian Ports Association, is expected to attract over 100,000 delegates and 500 exhibitors from more than 100 countries, with the aim of generating investment opportunities exceeding ₹10 lakh crore. The event will feature thematic sessions and high-level dialogues, including a keynote address from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. MPA will showcase its modernization efforts and sustainability initiatives at a dedicated pavilion, promoting engagement with stakeholders across the state.
