Six people have died and several others are missing after a small boat incident in the Channel on Saturday. Around 50 migrants were rescued, with some being saved by British vessels. The search and rescue operation involved two British ships and multiple French vessels. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) launched a lifeboat crew just before 4 am and search efforts are still ongoing. Most of those pulled from the sea were picked up by French vessels and taken back to France, although some were treated by paramedics in Dover. The rescue involved four French vessels and a French helicopter, as well as a ship from the RNLI and another British private vessel. The incident occurred off Sangatte, and it is unclear how many people were on the boat and if there are more missing.
