Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has selected the port terminals in the provinces of Colón and Panama as home ports for their upcoming cruises. Between December 2024 and December 2025, NCL will have four embarking/disembarking operations for the Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem, as well as two operations for the luxury cruise company Oceania Cruises’ six-star ship, Sirena. This decision by NCL follows Royal Caribbean International’s choice of Panama as its home port for the 2025-2026 cruise season.
A home port allows tourists to spend more time in the city, leading to increased interaction with the local economy. This includes purchasing goods like food, water, and medicines for the ship’s operation. Panama City offers a mix of modern skyscrapers and shopping malls, while visitors can explore the Panama Canal, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Casco Viejo, and nearby beaches. Colón boasts historical forts like San Lorenzo and the Colón Free Zone, providing a blend of culture, history, nature, commerce, and adventure.
According to Max Florez, Director of Ports and Auxiliary Maritime Industries at the Panama Maritime Authority, Panama has the necessary infrastructure and tourist attractions to be a top choice for cruise ports. With its diverse offerings and unique experiences, Panama is positioned as a world-class tourist destination for cruise travelers.
