Damen Shipyards Group has unveiled a new engine paired with a Damen marine emission reduction system, with the Damen D16 recently receiving EU stage V certification. Developed in-house by Damen Sustainable Solutions, the Damen D16 aims to decrease emissions and enhance power efficiency in support of Damen’s goal to be the leading sustainable maritime solutions provider.
The Damen D16 expands the company’s current portfolio, offering customers a clean and certified marine engine and aftertreatment system to maintain competitiveness, flexibility, and sustainability. Based on the Volvo Penta D16 IMO II, the engine features low fuel consumption, reductions in SOx, NOx, CO2, and noise, and a versatile layout for reliable power.
With the ability to run on biomass-based HVO, the Damen D16 provides even greater reductions in CO2 emissions. The engine’s EU stage V certification, achieved in collaboration with Volvo Penta dealer Haisma, enables Damen to offer clients a proven emission reduction system compliant with EU Stage V, ULEV, and IMO Tier III regulations, and certified for various fuel types. Suitable for a range of vessel types, the Damen D16 promotes environmentally conscious shipping through optimal fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions.
