The Seafarers International Research Centre at Cardiff University is conducting a study to improve healthcare for working seafarers in the cruise and cargo sectors. The study, led by Professor Helen Sampson and funded by The Swedish Mercantile Marine Foundation, aims to assist ports, employers, and governments in enhancing the healthcare of seafarers.
Participants in the study will be invited to take part in either a face-to-face interviewer-administered questionnaire or a voice-recorded online interview, with interviews expected to last less than 60 minutes. Upon completion, a publicly accessible online report will be published, and additional presentations, reports, or written accounts may be created for stakeholders in the maritime sector. The findings may also be used in academic books and articles, with anonymized quotes from interviewees possibly included.
The online report will be available on the Seafarers International Research Centre’s web pages until the end of 2025, and individuals can participate in the study by following this link.
