Ocean Technologies Group (OTG) has launched a new e-learning course for tender boat operators in the passenger ship industry. As the cruise sector grows, more ships are using tenders to transport guests between ship and shore, requiring crew members to be trained in tender boat safety. The course, the first of its kind, provides comprehensive familiarization with safety procedures and can be delivered as e-learning, allowing employers to provide theory training to crew members at any time. Practical training can then be conducted on board ships.
The course follows the IMO suggested training requirements for tender boat operators and comprises six individual online modules covering various aspects of safety and operation. OTG also provides evidence of practical training and issues a certificate of training upon completion. According to Joost van Ree, OTG’s Group Director Cruise and Yachts, the aim of the new course is to deliver a consistent, repeatable, scalable, and high-quality approach to training for tender boat operators. This allows employers to allocate tender boat duties to crew members at any time, removing the time pressure and cost of training a limited number of crew pre-joining.
OTG has also broadened its appeal to the cruise sector by offering a full range of flag approved STCW safety and security titles required for cruise personnel, as well as a strategic partnership agreement with Lobster Ink, adding more than 100 cruise-relevant hospitality courses to their Ocean Learning Platform (OLP).
