A new multi-purpose tugboat, named TITAN, has recently joined its sister tugboat MORETTO at Rijeka, Croatia’s main seaport. This tugboat is part of a two-tug contract with the Italian shipping group Scafi for its Croatian subsidiary Jadranski Pomorski Servis. The TITAN, formerly known as BOĞAÇAY LXXII during its construction in Turkey, is based on the exclusive RAmparts 2400SX MKII design from Robert Allan Ltd. With an 80-ton bollard pull, the TITAN is the most technologically-advanced version of Sanmar’s Boğaçay class of tugs, measuring 24.4m in length.
Powered by diesel engines, the TITAN has a fuel capacity of up to 20,500 gallons, enabling it to operate with more powerful engines and larger twin Z-drives compared to similar-sized tugs. The Scafi Group, a prominent player in the Mediterranean towage sector, operates tugs through subsidiaries and joint ventures in Italy, Croatia, Greece, and Morocco. Jadranski Pomorski Servis, the Croatian company that owns the TITAN, has been ensuring the safety of ship navigation in the North Adriatic since 1956.
The TITAN now works alongside the MORETTO, both of which are part of the Bogacay Series of tugs developed by Sanmar. These tugs play a crucial role in supporting maritime operations at Rijeka, a key port in Croatia. With their advanced design and capabilities, the TITAN and MORETTO contribute to the efficiency and safety of maritime activities in the region.
