In a significant development for maritime transportation, two new aluminum high-speed Ro-Pax ferries have been successfully launched by Incat Crowther for the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), which is part of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport. Following successful sea trials, these vessels are now operational on the approximately 42-kilometer route connecting Dalma Island to Jebel Dhannah on the UAE mainland.
Named Jazirat Dalma and Al Dhannah, the 56-meter ferries are constructed by Singapore’s Penguin International Limited in Batam, Indonesia. Each vessel can carry up to 192 passengers and 25 vehicles, achieving speeds of up to 39 knots. They feature an air-conditioned passenger deck with seating for 185, facilities for seven wheelchair passengers, and designated viewing areas at both the bow and stern.
Designed with a focus on speed, stability, comfort, and accessibility, the ferries boast catamaran hulls and a range of amenities. Each includes a VIP room for eight, cafés, multiple bathrooms, and a children’s playroom, along with generous luggage and cargo spaces. An onboard elevator connects the passenger and vehicle decks for added convenience.
Powering the vessels are four MTU engines, complemented by Kamewa waterjets for propulsion. The vehicle deck is optimized for efficiency, facilitating swift roll-on and roll-off operations. Furthermore, the elevated wheelhouse ensures the captain has excellent visibility, while the bridge deck features a crew mess and facilities for the ten-member crew.
