The new Disney Cruise Line cruise ship, Disney Adventure, was floated out on April 19 in Wismar, Germany. This 208,000 gross ton ship is the largest for Disney and will be the company’s first ship based year-round in Asia. The cruise line becomes only the third in the world to have a ship exceeding 200,000 gross tons. The ship was acquired by Disney in November 2022 from the bankrupt MV Werften Shipyard for €40 million and is set to enter service in December 2025.
The construction of Disney Adventure began in 2018 at yards in Wismar and Rostock. The midship section, which is 216 meters long, was built in Rostock and later transferred to Wismar. The completion of the ship is being overseen by Meyer Werft, and it is currently at the fitting out dock to receive its final elements. Disney has redesigned the ship to include features such as the longest rollercoaster at sea and a reduced passenger capacity of approximately 6,700.
Disney has entered into a five-year agreement with the Singapore Tourism Board to base Disney Adventure year-round in Singapore, offering short cruises starting on December 15. This new addition to Disney’s fleet is part of the company’s expansion plans, which include building two more ships of the Wish class at Meyer Werft in Germany. The cruise line aims to have 13 ships by 2031, with a capacity for nearly 50,000 passengers once the current expansion is completed.
