Fatal Fire Incident on Cruise Ship World Legacy Near Singapore

A crew member tragically lost their life following a fire aboard the World Legacy cruise ship while en route to Singapore on February 20. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported that of the 224 passengers on board, 185 were Singaporeans. The incident occurred at approximately 4 AM, and the fire was brought under control shortly thereafter. The vessel is currently anchored at Raffles Reserved Anchorage, situated between Pulau Senang and Pulau Semakau.

Emergency services, including MPA patrol crafts, the Police Coast Guard, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s Marine Division, are attending to the situation. The World Legacy, a Liberia-registered passenger vessel, had 388 crew members on board, none of whom were Singaporean. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the other crew members or passengers.

Dragon Cruises, the Singapore-based travel agency managing local operations for World Cruises, expressed its commitment to passenger and crew safety and is fully cooperating with authorities. They indicated that updates would be provided as more information becomes available. The World Legacy offers over 300 cabins and allows guests to choose between short visits or extended stays.

On the day of the incident, the cruise was scheduled to arrive at Harbourfront at 7 AM and depart at 9 AM, with another arrival planned for 6 PM and a departure at 10:30 PM.
