In recent years, there have been numerous reports of unruly behavior and even physical altercations involving passengers on cruise ships. One such incident occurred aboard the Virgin Voyages’ ship, Resilient Lady, where the CEO of a California-based title insurance company was charged in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The altercation reportedly began when a fellow passenger was dancing barefoot on a bar in the ship’s cocktail lounge called “On The Rocks.” The CEO, identified as Kenneth DeGiorgio, allegedly confronted the individual, putting his hands around the man’s neck and threatening to kill him.

The incident, which took place approximately 70 nautical miles west of Martinique in the Caribbean, was captured on the ship’s closed-circuit security cameras. Upon reaching Puerto Rico, the cruise ship’s captain confined DeGiorgio to his cabin and handed the matter over to the FBI, as crimes aboard cruise ships fall under federal jurisdiction. DeGiorgio, who refused to answer questions from the FBI and requested a lawyer, was charged with a simple misdemeanor but could face up to one year in prison if convicted of assault.

According to reports, DeGiorgio’s lawyers claim that he was responding to an individual who was harassing his wife, making her feel threatened and intimidated. They assert that DeGiorgio looks forward to being absolved of any wrongdoing. The incident highlights the importance of maintaining decorum and resolving conflicts peacefully while onboard cruise ships, as disruptive behavior can have serious legal consequences.
