On January 19, 2026, the Meyer Turku shipyard commenced production of the fifth vessel in the Icon Class for Royal Caribbean Group. The steel-cutting ceremony, attended by representatives from the ship’s owner, Meyer Turku, and the classification society, marks the beginning of over two years of construction involving thousands of professionals.

This new vessel, yet to be named, will play a crucial role in the Royal Caribbean fleet, offering innovative holiday experiences as part of the Icon Class. Scheduled for delivery in summer 2028, it follows the ongoing construction of the third and fourth Icon Class vessels at Meyer Turku.

The third ship, Legend of the Seas, will be delivered this summer and will cruise the Mediterranean starting in July, marking a shift from its predecessors. It will operate in the Caribbean during winter and return to Europe for the summer of 2027.

Meyer Turku also has options for the sixth and seventh Icon Class vessels, following a cooperation agreement with Royal Caribbean to produce ships at the Turku shipyard until 2036. In addition, the shipyard is constructing two multifunctional offshore patrol vessels for the Finnish Border Guard, set for delivery in 2026.
