The global cruise industry has seen a resurgence in growth recently, rebounding swiftly from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Demand for cruises has reportedly exceeded pre-2020 levels, particularly in the luxury segment, where travelers are increasingly seeking more intimate and personalized experiences. This trend emphasizes spaciousness, high-quality dining, and unique destinations. As a result, cruise lines are not only competing on itineraries but also enhancing their hospitality standards, investing in smaller ships with superior service ratios and a focus on wellness and sustainability.

In this context, Explora Journeys, a luxury cruise brand under MSC Cruises, is set to introduce its third ship, EXPLORA III, ahead of its planned launch in July 2026. The ship will kick off with an inaugural cruise in the Mediterranean, followed by an official launch ceremony in Barcelona. Explora Journeys positions EXPLORA III as a floating luxury hotel, showcasing contemporary design and a wellness concept that integrates the sea, body, and mind.

EXPLORA III will be 19.2 meters longer than its predecessors and will feature 463 suites, enhancing its intimate atmosphere. The crew-to-guest ratio is nearly 1:1, ensuring personalized service and ample space for guests. The ship’s suite offerings will include a higher number of Ocean Penthouses and Ocean Residences, with one Owner’s Residence designed by renowned designer Patricia Urquiola.

Culinary experiences on board will also be elevated, featuring a dedicated Chef’s Table, a luxury wine cellar, and signature restaurants, along with 12 elegantly designed bars and lounges. In terms of wellness, EXPLORA III will offer a unified area for spa, fitness, and well-being services, featuring holistic treatments and advanced fitness equipment. The shopping experience will be enhanced with luxury brands like Rolex, Cartier, and Chopard, reflecting the growing emphasis on high-end offerings in the cruise market. The ship will operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and next-generation engines, aligning with the industry’s sustainability trends, and will sail to Northern Europe, Iceland, and Greenland following its Mediterranean debut.
